Casablanca is a brief 7 hours from JFK, then an hour and a half to Rabat but for the moment, close your eyes and breathe in the pungent spices of North Africa, intersection of vibrant trade routes from all over the world. An agreeable climate, expansive coasts, red deserts and imposing Atlas mountains. African, Arab, Jewish, Persian and French (so love this) cultural confluence with Berber culinary skills. And every possible expression in food, music, architecture, literature, religion…pick a couple. I’ll be trying to absorb it all.
An impromptu visit to Musee D’Art Moderne and Contemporain. Sharing photos and commentary while my brain catches up with body clock! Dinner tonight with new travel friends.
Afternoon stroll up and down Blvd. Mohammed V in sunny 70 degree weather. Capital city Rabat has dominant, welcome French infrastructure, is modern, clean and busy with a noticeable police and military presence.
Tour begins tomorrow. Stay tuned.
