This is not just “another waterfall’…and believe me, I’ve seen a few and shared them with you; Iceland has Seljalandfoss and Godafoss among their trove of treasures as well as South Africa’s Victoria Falls from both ground and helicopter views.
But Iguazu trumps all of these with raw majesty, sound and fury!
Iguazu Falls are actually a series of large waterfalls or cataracts on the border between Argentina and Brazil.
A railway car takes you to the Upper Circuit of the Falls on the Argentinian side. I walked the circuit taking pictures and continued along the catwalks to the Devil’s Gorge finally to view the Devil’s Throat, which is the largest drop of about 270 feet!
And the two sides, one in Argentina and the other in Brazil offer completely different views.
The next day I navigated the lower portion of the Brazilian side. No poncho can protect from a thorough but glorious drenching that is more than justified by the deafening, thrilling wall of water.
In combination this UNESCO World Heritage Site forms the largest waterfall system in the world.
About 80% of the falls are located on the Argentine side, while the remaining 20% are in Brazil. The falls are straddling the border between Argentina’s Misiones Province and Brazil’s Paraná State.
If you’re going:
To buy tickets for the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls, you can purchase them either online through the official park website (tickets.cataratasdoiguacu.com.br) or at the ticket offices located at the park entrance. Cost is about $18 USD. Because of Argentine inflation, the price of entrance fluctuates constantly…even the park’s official page cannot keep up! But this is the best page to use as a guide for ticket prices: Iguazu Argentina
