Astonishing Rabat: Kings, Kasbahs and a Pink Lamborghini

Morning in Rabat, busy due to King Mohammed VI visit with the Parliament tomorrow. Flags flying, cobblestones washed in the square of the Royal Palace. Morocco is a Parliamentary Monarchy, emphasis on monarchy and HE’s coming tomorrow! The air is electric.

Today’s itinerary and then the eloquence of pictures.

After breakfast, a tour the capitol beginning with a drive past the beautifully tiled entrance to the Royal Palace, followed by a stop at Bab Rouah, or the city’s “Gate of the Winds,” so called because it’s been battered by Atlantic winds since its construction in 1197. Then Hassan Tower, part of an unfinished mosque started by a 12th-century caliph. Next stop, Kasbah of the Udayas and a stroll in the French-colonial Andalusian gardens. Contemporary Art Museum gems. Chellah, the necropolis and ruins of an ancient Roman outpost. Lunch and then “pretty in pink”. Enjoy.
